Christian Weight Loss — 5 Keys to Stop Temptation From Ruining Your Diet

April 10th, 2010 Diet-PillsThatWork No comments

Good vs. Evil. We see it everyday in the world around us, yet we don’t think of weight loss in those terms. What did the devil use in his first temptation — food! Since it worked so well the first time, don’t you think he’d continue to use food as a temptation? There are many good diet programs out there that will help you lose weight. Where they fall short is they talk about temptation as if it is something that just happens to you. They don’t address who is tempting you (the devil) and how to combat the devil’s temptations to continue to lose weight and keep it off. From my experience, weight loss is a game. You think of food and the game begins. The devil tempts, and you react. If you give in the devil laughs and you gain weight. I believe the devil wants you to lose weight. He knows that if you lose some weight and gain it back, you’ll be more depressed than if you had not lost any weight at all. So, how do you fight the devil? The following five keys are critical to your success. 1) Present moment awareness Many studies have shown that successful people spend most of their time focused on the present, not daydreaming about the past or future. It is when you are daydreaming about the past or future that you often reach for “comfort foods” which is a nice way of saying the devil is tempting you. Being aware of what is happening is critical to weight loss success. 2) Visual (Awareness) cues In the Bible God instructed the people of Israel to use awareness cues to remember to keep his commandments. God had them add tassels to their garments so when they looked at them they’d remember his commandments and observe them. I figure they must be a pretty good idea if God came up with them. Use anything that will help you stay focused ( pictures, crosses, figurines, music, etc.) around the house, at work, in your car etc. to keep you on track.  3) You have a voice, use it for good! The Bible talks of the power of the word. You must be careful and watch what you say when trying to lose weight. What you say can affect you in a positive or negative way. Positive affirmations and prayers have been proven work, use them throughout the day. 4) Visualization You already do it all the time without even realizing it. Your mind thinks in pictures, not words. If I say “red barn”, what comes to mind? A picture of a red barn, not the words red barn. Super successful people in all walks of life understand the importance of visualization and make sure it is only used in ways that will benefit them. What a wonderful gift from God but few realize how important it is. 5) Read your Bible with anticipation Read the Bible as if it were your favorite mystery novel, a book that you can’t put down. Before you start, ask God for guidance, telling him you can’t wait to see what he is going to reveal to you as you read. You’ll be amazed at the insights he gives you.

While our discussion here is weight loss, these same keys can be used to deal with temptation in other areas of your life as well.

If you put these keys to work, you’ll find that winning the game of weight loss is an opportunity given by God to grow and mature in your faith. God bless.

Avoid These Dangerous Weight Loss Methods

Everyone wants to find that magic weight loss program that allows him or her to lose weight easily. Often you will find that you have to give up something to lose weight, however, you should never have to give up your health. Some weight loss methods can be very hazardous to your health.
It may seem tempting to follow an easy weight loss plan but you need to be sure that you understand the plan and the risks that can be associated with these types of plans.
Some people have turned to prescription pills to help them lose weight. Some people use amphetamines to help them lose weight, but most doctors do not want to give these types of prescriptions for weight loss.
These prescriptions only suppress your appetite and your habits are not changed, so when you go off the medication you tend to quickly gain back the weight you lost. These prescription diet pills can also be addictive and can cause many side effects such as sleeplessness, heart problems, hypertension, and hallucinations.
Ephedra is an herb that many have turned to, to try to lose weight. It is an Asian herb and is found in a variety of weight loss products. Ephedra does suppress appetite. However, over 70 deaths have been associated with taking Ephedra. This can be a dangerous way to lose weight and you do not want to harm your health, or even die, trying to lose weight.
Another weight loss supplement is called Fen-phen and was very popular in the 90’s. Fen-phen is Phentermine Fenfluarmine-phentermine. Together they ended up causing damage to valves in the hearts and were implicated in deaths to that effect. Now you can still purchase weight loss products that contain Phetermine by itself, however there are a variety of side affects that include hypertension, dizziness, headaches, irregular heartbeat, and insomnia.
Some people have turned to home remedies to help purge away weight and have used laxatives to do this. Using laxatives in this way, which is not their intended use, can actually cause irregular heart rate, low potassium, and even damage to the pancreas. Some people not only have used laxatives to purge their systems but some have begun forcing themselves to vomit or have used enemas to help purge their system. These methods can all be very dangerous leading to vitamin deficiencies and damage to the esophagus.
Many people have also used smoking as a way to control their weight. Some people have been afraid to quit smoking because they were afraid of weight gain. Smoking can be very detrimental to your health and to equal the bad effects of smoking you would have to gain over 100 pounds to equal them. If you want to lose weight you need to find a way to deal with any cravings for food you may have instead of turning to cigarettes.
Diuretics have also been used to help people with weight loss. Diuretics get rid of fluids in the body and it often gets rid of fluids that you need such as electrolytes. You can actually end up dehydrated and it can lead to water retention. If you continually use diuretics you can end up with severe kidney problems and this could result in kidney failure or heart failure, which can kill you.
Remember that while weight loss can help you improve your health, losing weight in an unhealthy manner can lead to many other medical problems. Your health is important and so is losing weight, but you need to be sure that you find a way to lose the weight in a healthy way. Often consulting with your doctor can help you find a healthy way to lose weight.

The Anti Toxin Diet – Drink Juice and Lose Weight

This diet is the best if you want to get rid of the extra toxins in your body. The juice diet not only detoxifies your body, but also does magic to your facial and physical appearance. Not only will you be shedding off pounds your face would glow. Your typical day should include a glass of low fat or skim milk In the morning as breakfast.

After a couple of hours you should have a cucumber juice with lemon. Make sure you do not drink half glasses, try having a big glass of these juices have a lot of water in between. for lunch have a big glass of orange juice with two boiled eggs. For your mid evening snack have a glass of banana, carrot, kiwi, grapefruit, orange, apple, mango, juice you can make a juice out of these fruits and veggies, or you can make a smoothie. The smoothie should be made in low fat yogurt and no extra sugar should be added.

Let’s say you are a veggie hater and only resort to eating meats and eggs. so you can stick to drinking fruit juices rather than vegetable juices. Try drinking the broccoli and mint juice. Not only will your system be purified, you will get all the required nutrients in your body. You can also drink tomato juice, as long as you do not have uric acid. But do not have a lot of tomato juice since the sugar in tomato can be problematic with the weight loss. a lot of people follow the orange juice diet, but a variety of juices made with fresh veggies and fruits can be healthier.

Make sure you check with your doctor before doing the juice diet. Once you have lost all the desired weight on the juice diet. Adding solid food should be done slowly and you should only introduce the easily digested foods first. For instance yogurt, cereal, salads etc. do not start your solid food diet until you have fully lost your desired weight. Drink a lot of water while doing the diet.

Diet Plan Hacks for Extreme Weight Loss

December 20th, 2009 Diet-PillsThatWork No comments

There are many things you can do to enhance your new diet plan and accelerate your weight loss efforts. Here are 10 diet plan hacks that will have you losing weight like Jared from Subway fame.
1. No to fruit juice. Most of you might think that fruit juice is good for you, but think again. Juice is fruit with the fiber removed and in addition it is often loaded with sugar. If you want fruit then have the real thing.
2. Stick to water. By drinking water and unsweetened tea (preferably green tea) you can take hundreds of calories a day out of your diet and really start to see some results immediately. Just 500 calories a day is equivalent to 1 pound a week and you can get that in just a few sodas or fruit juices. Plus water helps to flush your system. Remember that our bodies are 90% water and drinking enough helps every part of you.
3. Create a new good habit each day. Many of us eat the same things day in and day out, not because they are nourishing, but because it has become a habit. Change those bad habits into good habits. For example, I switched from a snickers bar in the middle of the afternoon to a piece of fruit. Even if you make just one small change daily they will add up over time and you’ll be much healthier.
4. Change your lifestyle. Your diet is not a one time event, it is the way you feed your body day in and day out. We often say that we are “on a diet”, but this is a misnomer because you are always on a diet. It’s just that some diets are more healthy for us than others. Change your lifestyle so that you think of your diet as something positive that you do for yourself.
5. Get plenty of sleep. Researchers have found that lack of sleep can contribute to weight gain. Proper sleep is a necessary part of any weight loss plan. Make sure you get 7 hours a night or more to be at your best.
6. Eat 5-6 small meals per day. Yes, it may seem strange to eat 5-6 meals a day when you’re trying to lose weight, but this is the secret to getting to the next level in your fitness goals.
Eating 5-6 small meals per day is the key to a fast metabolism. Every time you eat a meal, your body’s metabolism starts up a new spin cycle caused by the thermic effect of food.
In fact, a portion of the calories you consume are burned through the simple act of digestion. This thermic effect can range from 3% to 30%. Lean protein causes a thermic effect of up to 30%. This means you burn 30% of the calories you eat from chicken breast, fish, and egg whites. Vegetables have a thermic effect of around 20%. However, fats and refined carbohydrates have a very low thermic effect of only 3%. This is one of the reasons it’s so easy to gain weight when you are eating lots of carbohydrates and sugars.
When you’re eating 5-6 smaller meals that are centered around high protein and fibrous vegetables, your body will burn through the calories.
A higher metabolism creates a fat-burning machine. The longer you practice this meal plan, the more muscle you’ll develop. The more muscle you develop, the faster your metabolism will become. It’s a win-win situation.
Unfortunately, it’s something that way too few people are taking advantage of. Most people try to starve themselves and in the process they kill their metabolism. In doing that, they also kill their fat-burning potential.
Five or six small meals a day accelerates your body’s natural rate of calorie burning.
Best of all, frequent meals also prevents binges and controls cravings. When you’re eating every three hours, your body stays satisfied and your energy levels stay high.
7. Don’t avoid all fats. It may sound strange and counter intuitive, but it is actually a good thing to eat some fats when trying to lose weight. The fats you want to eat are the “good” fats that will help keep your immune system working and will actually help keep your metabolism higher.
They’re called essential fatty acids. You may have heard of them. They go by the name of Omega 3, Omega 6, and Omega 9 and they are essential to a healthy diet.
8. Add variety to your meals. Don’t get stuck in a rut with your diet. Eating a variety of meats, fruits and vegetables and experimenting with different herbs and spices will keep you more interested in your new diet.
9. Get your Fiber. Fiber provides several benefits to you. It makes you feel fuller so you eat less and it slows down the digestion of fats and carbohydrates so you feel full longer.
10. Eat more slowly. Americans eat their food way too fast. If you want to lose a few pounds then slow down when you eat. It can take 20 minutes after your full for the message to get from your stomach to your brain. If your stuffing food into your mouth for that 20 minutes imagine the excess calories you’re taking in. Slow down and take the time to enjoy your food.

What is the Best Teenage Diet Plan for You?

December 7th, 2009 Diet-PillsThatWork No comments

Any teenage diet plan can pose a potential health risk, especially in people who have certain medical conditions. It’s imperative, therefore, to seek medical advice before starting such a plan. In most cases, doctors will advise against teenage dieting because it usually is not necessary.

Teens are at a vulnerable stage and take peer pressure very seriously. They worry about their appearance which can cause those who do not have a weight problem to take drastic measures. Skipping meals is not the answer.

The best teenage diet plan provides the proper nutrients that are needed to build healthy bones and maintain overall good health from the inside out. Your doctor can advise you on the best plan for your specific needs.

If you eat junk foods constantly you will not receive the benefits of a good teenage diet plan. Instead, they will be at risk of developing weight-related health problems that include diabetes and heart disease.

Keep in mind that being a little heavy is common in people your age. Most people will lose that excess weight naturally as they grow. Also, everyone is different. What might be a good weight for someone else might not be right for you. You have to consider your bone size, your height, and what is a normal weight for your family.

You can always benefit from eating nutritious meals and avoiding junk food, which contains very little nutrition. Here’s a good teenage diet plan you can follow to reduce your weight if you are overweight.

One important element of a good teenage diet plan is exercise. Sometimes, this is enough. It helps your body to digest the food that you eat. It builds muscle which naturally burns calories. Exercise uses energy that would otherwise turn into fat.

We’ve already talked about avoiding fast foods and any high carbohydrate and sugar-based foods such as candy bars, potato chips and sodas. They have limited to no nutritional value. When eaten, these foods quickly turn to unhealthy fat which can block your blood vessels and arteries.

It’s best to create your teenage diet plan with your doctor’s or parent’s help, especially if you are extra heavy. Refer to healthy eating books and magazines for advice and ideas. Preparing a diet plan that gets results is not that difficult.

Fruits and vegetables: Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables to ensure you get natural minerals. Certain vegetables, like asparagus, will help you to lose weight. Carry small quantities of fruits and vegetables for snacks.

Lean meats: Lean meat can actually help you to lose weight because it takes more energy to digest than other foods. Avoid eating a lot of red meat because it contains more fat than other meats and is harder to digest. Choose chicken or fish instead. Eat a small amount every day.

Milk and cheese: These two foods provide much needed calcium. Skim milk has less fat than 100% milk but with all the goodness. Cheese is another food that can actually help you to lose weight because it boosts your metabolism.

Water: Water is essential, especially when you’re exercising. It’s about the only food you can eat that is guaranteed non-fattening.

Rather than eating three large meals a day, switch to 4-6 smaller meals a day. This will keep your body’s metabolism working and prevent the food from turning to fat.

Remember that the best teenage diet plan involves eating less more often, and getting lots of exercise.

Weight Loss Is Possible If You Follow The Right Diet Plan

December 1st, 2009 Diet-PillsThatWork No comments

Weight loss is much harder than it may seem. Temptations are all around us keeping us from taking the huge leap into the world of dieting. The good thing about losing weight in today’s society is that there are many weight loss programs available that not only provide techniques to lose weight; they provide support to help you understand the weight gain and the proper way to lose weight. Portions and exercise are the main ingredients to a good weight loss plan. What programs are available?Turn on the television, flip through a magazine and you will see a variety of weight loss programs. It is hard to say which program is best for each individual, but they have proven to work on different levels. Perhaps the most well-known plan is Weight Watchers. They use a program that requires counting calories and using the point system. Basically, each food is assigned certain points, once you have met all of your points for the day; you have fulfilled that day’s allotment of food. You can spread the points out throughout the day, but once they are used up you are done. The good thing about Weight Watchers is they do have meetings where you can talk with other dieters and understand that you are not the only one suffering from weight gain. The staff will also check your point system each week and help you to arrange it for better weight loss. There is also the Nutrisystem program, which includes small portions of food that they deliver right to your door. They have a menu of their foods that are prepared to suit your needs. This is successful in that you do not have to worry about purchasing the right foods for dieting, they do all this work for you.Another diet plan is Slim Fast, which again is very popular. They teach you the right foods to eat along with their pre-made shakes and snack bars. This is yet another convenient way to achieve weight loss due to the shakes that are especially helpful when you are on the go. Lastly, is the Atkins diet, which basically teaches your body to burn fat instead of storing it by eating fewer carbohydrates? This is done, by eating specific foods and exercise. More than likely, when you make the choice of the Atkins diet plan, you may hear more negative feedback than that of the other diets, but really is all about each person and if this diet works for you, then it is the best choice. There are many other programs out there, but these seem to be the most successful. Weight loss is not an easy process to begin, but once you get started and stick to the plan, it can be achieved. It is difficult to do this on your own, by cutting down on foods and not eating. Many times, this leads to fast weight loss and in return even faster weight gain. Using a weight loss plan is definitely the best choice.

Your Weight Loss Diet Plan Should Avoid These Six Mistakes

November 30th, 2009 Diet-PillsThatWork No comments

I know you are making these fat loss mistakes because I did too! Based on my experience from losing over 80 pounds and finally keeping it off, here are some tips for avoiding these common dieting mistakes.

YOU ARE TRYING TO DO TOO MUCH TOO SOON

Trying to go from Sedentary Slob to Super Dieter on a Monday morning? Not so smart. It is a great way to ensure you will be back to the couch by mid-day Wednesday. You can’t expect to undo years worth of damage overnight.

If you typically eat three meals per day, start slowly by adding a snack – either in the morning or the afternoon, then work your way to six small meals every 2-3 hours. This approach to fat loss is called kaizen, a Japanese philosophy that focuses on continuous improvement throughout all aspects of life. Making a small change once a day or once a week leads to a constant state of improvement.

YOU ARE LOOKING FOR THE QUICK FIX

I was convinced I had a Loch Ness Monster in my colon and that was making me fat! But the colon cleanser I purchased only left me with a very sore butt, some leafy-looking things in the toilet and not a single pound lost.

Now I was convinced that I needed a super-duper-ultra fat burner – one that would melt away the fat while I sat on my butt doing nothing!

After thousands of dollars and lots of false hope, I realized that the only way I was going to achieve the lean body that I desired was to come up with a solid nutrition and exercise plan, and to add supplements that were backed by solid science.

YOU ARE LETTING OTHERS KNOCK YOU OFF-TRACK

My family is full of enablers – they mean well, but they were not sensitive to the fact that I was serious about staying on track with my weight loss diet. “C’mon a little bit won’t hurt” or “you can diet tomorrow” was all it took to convince me to eat. Within 30 minutes I had eaten myself stupid and undone all of the positive progress that I had spent the past week achieving.

Let those around you know how important it is for you to lose weight and what it means to both you, and them, if you do not achieve your goals.

YOU ARE NOT GETTING BACK “ON THE WAGON” IMMEDIATELY AFTER FALLING OFF

I would usually fall off my diet toward the end of any given week. It was at that point that I rationalized that, since I was “off the wagon” I would wait until Monday to get started again!

This probably won’t come as a big shock, but science now has proven that weekends can wreak havoc on your waistline. That was the conclusion of Washington University researchers, who found that even people on strict diet and exercise programs lose weight more slowly than expected because they eat more on weekends.

The verdict: People don’t need a holiday to eat more; they tend to do it every weekend because human lifestyle patterns can be very different.

There were two key takeaways for me from this:

1.The best time to get back “on the wagon” was at your next meal – do not wait until you’ve done more damage. 2. Do not let the weekends be different than any other day – stick with your plan whether it is a Saturday or a Wednesday

YOU ARE TRYING TO BE PERFECT EVERY DAY

Life is not perfect – and your diet plan shouldn’t be either. You can’t expect yourself to follow your program to the letter every second of every day until you reach your goal. If you do, you will ultimately fail. That is why you need to apply the 90/10 rule to your nutrition and exercise.

The 90/10 rule is very simple – if you are following your weight loss diet plan 90% of the time, then you will not be hurt by the 10% of the time that you are not. Your weight loss diet should include a minimum of 5 meals per day, with 6 meals being ideal. Following the 90/10 rule with 6 meals a day (or 42 meals a week) means that you have 4 meals a week where you can go off your program without halting progress, as long as those meals are reasonable.

Same rules apply to exercise. Let’s say your schedule permits you to work out 4 days per week. So in a month, you have 16 workouts – and following the 90/10 rule, you can miss 1 or 2 workouts without derailing yourself. However, you should save your “skips” for times when you really need to skip – like a poor night’s sleep, illness, or hectic travel schedule.

YOU ARE NOT SETTING REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS

It took you your entire life to get to this point, and you expect to reverse all of the damage in 3 weeks? That is what a lot of diet products would like you to believe.

You absolutely MUST set goals, but they MUST be realistic. What is realistic? one to two pounds of fat per week is a reasonable goal. The more you have to lose, the higher you can set your expectation. But if you are approaching double-digits with your expectations, you are setting yourself up for failure.

Supermodel Diet Plan From an Industry Insider

November 12th, 2009 Diet-PillsThatWork No comments

After working with and getting to know top models over the course of a year in New York City and abroad, there are definite patterns in meal habits and exercise. Genetics can only go so far in keeping up lean, healthy bodies.

Of all the girls observed, the leanest and healthiest were not the ones that trimmed calories down to an unhealthy level, but instead carefully balanced nutrient intake and meal timing. The following are examples of actual meals throughout the day:

Breakfast, eaten anytime between 8am-11am:

1 cup raisin bran or similar whole-grain fiber cereal in 1% milk

or

1 cup of oats in 1% milk, cooked

and

1 small cup of low sugar yogurt

1 cup coffee

Small glass of water or orange juice

~500 calories

Breakfast, of any meal, is the time to eat either fatty or sugary foods. Your metabolism and daily plans can and will burn off this food throughout the day. Additionally, a hearty breakfast will satisfy you well into the lunch hours. This will leave you with focus to complete your daily responsibilities, unlike some diet plans that advocate only eating a morsel in the morning.

Lunch, eaten anytime between 12:00 noon-4:00pm

Turkey, chicken, or similar lean cold-cut with your choice of cheese, veggie toppings, as a sandwich between whole wheat bread slices. Be weary of dressings high in saturated fat or sugar. Olive oil and vinegar is a great substitute.

A complex carbohydrate in addition (such as quality, baked chips) will also help squash your appetite. A sugar-free carbonated beverage on top will leave you filling full. Now is also a good time of day to pop a daily multi-vitamin.

~500 calories

Dinner, eaten anytime between 6:00pm-9:00pm

Many sources stress dinner not being eaten approaching bedtime, but this is just silly. Most people’s evening activities are incredibly relaxed, blurring the line between resting rate burned calories while awake, and asleep.

When dinner time rolls around, it is best to avoid any sort of carbohydrate. Now is the time to pack on the protein and a small amount of unsaturated fat to kill your appetite. Options such as chicken breast, turkey, lean red meats, cooked with olive oil are great. Even a slice of cheese melted over is acceptable – The only truly treacherous thing is carbs. A small portion of vegetables such as broccoli or carrots is acceptable. Stay away from any overly-starchy veggie. Chase the meal with plenty of water to leave you fulfilled prior to bed.

~400 calories

The meals provided are just a small excerpt, but you can mix up the variety to suit your taste. There are a few key guidelines that need to be followed, at all costs:

AVOID SUGAR. It is never beneficial to eat sugar. If you’re going to do it, do it during breakfast. Even fruit juice is just as bad as soda as far as dieting is concerned. Check the label, if there’s a lot of sugar, head for the hills. Splenda should be your best friend when it comes to sweetening things. ALSO: Many fad diets advocate eating lots of fruits and vegetables. These nature-borne things seem to be so innocent and infallible for a diet, but in reality, fruits contain a boatload of sugar, and vegetables such as potatoes contain lots of starches that are similar to sugar. Oddly enough, fad diets and juice diets don’t work and are an unhealthy way to lose weight.

Scale your meal like a triangle, starting your earliest meal with a lot of calories, and decreasing as it grows later in the day. As mentioned, you’ll burn off the earlier calories by being active during the day.

Get Cosmo Free for a Year

As far as working out is concerned – Don’t make the mistake so many women make. Instead of doing nothing but treadmills and jogging, try actually lifting weights. As the fat comes off, you’ll actually have muscle tone underneath, for a healthier look, as opposed to loose skin on bone. Also, muscle mass burns more calories per pound than other tissue. If you build muscle, you’ll burn more calories just sitting around after your workout. And compared to running, lifting weights burns a greater amount of calories.
