How To Maintain Your Weight Loss

Once you have started losing weight, it is crucial to think of how to maintain that weight loss in the days ahead.

It may seem hard to believe, but taking the weight off is the easy part. Maintaining weight loss for good is where the real challenge lies. If you are like me, you have tried countless diets, only to gain the weight back. People lose lots of weight on diets everyday, but 95% of them gain it back because they have focused only on the weight loss. They follow the diet until they get to a particular number on the scale and then, shortly after, they go back to the old lifestyle that made them overweight in the first place. Over time, of course, the weight comes right back.

The truth is, almost everyone can lose weight but only 5% keep it off. These are the Weight Loss Registry’s figures, not mine. The WLR followed highly successful dieters and came up with seven reasons why people were able to keep the weight off.

Here are the seven reasons the dieters were successful.

1. The dieters accepted failure and kept on trying.

2. The dieters did not deny themselves–they indulged from time to time.

3. They weighed themselves often.

4. They exercised one hour a day.

5. They added little bits of activity into their daily life.

6. They followed a high carb and low fat diet.

7. They ate 5 meals a day.

When I compare my own weight loss success to the list above, I would say I learned how to maintain weight loss due to the following: I do the best I can with what I have available. Sometimes I am not always in a perfect situation with the healthiest choices, but I make do with what is there and I stick to the plan. If I make a not so healthy choice, I don’t beat myself up for it.

I eat YUMMY and whole foods. Using the finest ingredients makes the most delicious meals and has helped me stick to Living Well. If I wanted to indulge, I would make it from scratch using the healthiest ingredients possible. To me, indulging does not mean eating junk.

I use a tape measure to keep tabs on my weight and occasionally weigh myself.

I really struggle with exercising regularly and I have NEVER exercised for one hour a day consistently. I will do heavy housework and other activities around the house to get my heart rate up and I try different forms of exercise all the time because I get bored easily.

I think it is vital to get moving every day, somehow, and it doesn’t always mean you have to be in an aerobics class or on some sort of machine to get your heart rate up.

I eat organic whole foods and healthy oils. I am not sold on the idea that low fat and high carb is the way to go. High fat is not the answer either, but healthy oils are not the enemy. The rights oils will actually speed up the metabolism.

I eat only 3 meals a day and rarely snack. I do better when I don’t snack or graze on food all day. BUT, you may be different. You have to do what works best for you and your unique body.

This is the MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL: I think of the health I have now and my future health EVERYDAY. I really want to enjoy my older years and I want to be healthy. I don’t want to sit in a rocking chair, talking about all my symptoms and the things that ail me when I am in my golden years.

The Weight Loss Registry tips and my maintenance tips are not the only path for everyone, but instead are some ideas you can use to come up with your own way to keep the weight off once you have lost it.

Ultimately, I think it is crucial to focus on your health when changing over to a healthy lifestyle. So many people are in a hurry to lose weight. They spend their entire lives putting on the weight, losing the weight temporarily on diets and just wanting to get rid of it as fast as possible, not taking into consideration their state of health. I know you have heard this many times before, but if you don’t have your health, you don’t have much. Being thin will mean nothing to you if you compromise your health along the way.

Even if you are losing weight slowly, good for you! The idea here is to take off the weight and keep it off for good. Even just a couple of pounds a month adds up over the course of a year. And for those that were doing everything they could and continuing to gain weight, just stopping that weight gain is a measure of success.

It takes time to lose weight, just as it took time to gain weight. Nobody has ever gone to bed thin and woke up overweight the next morning. Many industries that have sprung up around the issue of weight loss, produce and try to sell products that are claimed to be the holy grail of weight loss. Admittedly many of the exercises on these types of products can be beneficial, but that is not the whole story.

Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that these people look the way that they do because of the product that they are trying to sell you, because they don’t.

Keep in mind that they probably keep their bodies in shape with expensive personal trainers.

Remember that they can afford to buy the healthiest foods.

Remember that they can afford to have their homes equipped with professional gym equipment.

Remember that the main reason that they initially became celebrities was because they already were beautiful and had great bodies. Not all of us are fortunate enough to have great genetics.

Remember that if all else fails, they have the money to pay for all their fat to be sucked out of them through medical procedures.

Buying some celebrity’s DVD is not going to guarantee to give you the body that they have unless you fall into the majority of the above.

Have you ever thought why these people make these DVDs?

Do they really have your best interests at heart? Did they suddenly get this selfless thought during an expensive facial? Do they really want to make life better for you? Do they know you? Do they care about you?

My guess is that most of these celebrities make these products to make life even better for themselves by persuading you to give them your money. Perhaps I am being too cynical; perhaps they do genuinely care about your welfare. I know! after purchasing one of their products try contacting them personally. Ask for some advice on exercise or weight loss. I’m sure they would be more than happy to help you; after all they do want to help you. They tell you as much on their DVD.

Exercise products

More people waste money on exercise gadgets than anything else. People see the adverts, the persuasive hard sell, and the selfless endorsements. In a trance like state you telephone in your order without any logical thought. You wait religiously for 28 days for your product to arrive. You have visions about how great you are going to look after using this product.

The reality is very different to your visions. The reality is that you will use the product a few times, realise that it’s harder than you thought, and you will hide it away in some dark corner so you don’t have to be reminded of how much money you have wasted.

Have you ever noticed how well muscled and toned the people in the adverts are? Did these people really get 18in arms by pulling a few cables 5 minutes a day? Did these people really get toned and tanned bodies just from the product that they are using?

Of course there are other people on these advertisements who used to be overweight and are now slim. They imply that their results came directly from the product. Did they achieve what they did without changing their diets and lifestyles? Why would these people say that they owed their success to a particular product?

If i had lost some weight and someone offered me lots of money to say that i did it using their product, it ould be extremely hard to turn down.Obviously they wouldn’t want me to mention any other methods that i would have used? I know that I wouldn’t.

The fact is that people can be persuaded to buy anything through clever advertising. Focus on the fact that it is you that is going to make sure that you lose weight and not some gadget that you can slide under your bed. Any product is only going to be a part of a weight loss plan. The most important parts of any weight loss plan are going to be motivation, commitment, determination, and perseverance. Focus on these 4 factors and you will lose weight. Without these 4 factors you will not.

I personally have tried all the quick weight loss for wowmen diets there is out there. Yes some of them do work, but only for a short period of time.

 

Let’s look at these quick weight loss diets and understand why they work, but only for the short term.

 

How Do You Lose Weight Quickly?

 

In order to lose weight quickly you need to eat a much lower number of calories than you burn in a given day.

 

This means that you either have to calorie count or follow one of those “lose ten pounds in ten days” diets.

 

Many people say that in order to lose weight quickly you should only consume 800 calories a day. Wow – that’s not much food is it?

 

Yes you can keep this up for a short period of time and lose weight quickly, but as soon as you start eating properly again… yes you’ve guessed it – up goes your weight again.

How to Lose Weight in 2 Weeks

If you’re wondering how to lose weight in 2 weeks I have both good news and bad news for you.
On the good news front, it is entirely possible to lose weight in that time and I have managed up to 7lbs of weight lost in a single 7 day period (though doctors would question how safe this level of weight loss was). On the downside, to really make those 2 weeks count you’re going to have to do everything 100% right. No sneaky days off or food-related treats – you need to ensure every single thing you do leads you closer to your goal of losing weight.
So with the preable out of the way, how exactly are we going to get you to lose the maximum amount of weight in just 2 weeks? My own experience suggests that for a short term goal like this, vast amounts of exercise and a virtually carb-free diet are the ways to go.
Personally, I tried the Atkins Diet and that was what led me to lose that huge amount of weight, though I found the weight loss reduced considerably over the following weeks so don’t consider this a long term plan.
However other pretty-much carb free diets like the South Beach Diet are likely to be just as helpful.
The carbohydrate free diet will involve living on items such as eggs, milk, meat and vegetables. At lkeast during the initial introductory phase there is no fruit, no cereal, no bread, no potatos and so on so it can be quite a shock to the system to give up your “normal” foods. After all, what could be more “normal” than just grabbing a sandwich, or a bowl of cereal or some pasta? Suddenly these are all off limits.
Also, be aware that due to this huge nutritional shift, some people will find at least for the first few days that their energy levels drop or that they get downright irritable. This, as I say, is normal and will likely pass within 2-3 days.
Also, appreciate that fluids will be provided by water mainly, with perhaps a sugar and milk-free tea or coffee which can be an experience in itself.
I personally found the Atkins Diet took quite a bit of getting used to, but when I started to adjust it was quite enjoyable. Who would complain at eating eggs and bacon for breakfast and still dropping a whole pound of weight that day?!
The other factor of course is exercise – and trying to burn off as much fat as possible.
In this regard, put aside at least an hour a day to go running, walking, cycling – anything, in fact – so long as it makes you sweat. You need to get puffed out and feel your heart thumping for the best result. An additional tip that can make this length of exercise more achievable is to split your session into 2 or more segments. Then try a different exercise in each section, and take a break inbetween.
An example could be walking quickly for 20 minutes, followed by a 5 minute break. Then 20 minutes on the treadmill jogging. Then another quick break for 2 or 3 minutes, and finally a 20 minute swim.
Job done, and without killing yourself!
